Yuzuru Yamai is one of the main characters from the Date A Live anime and light novels.
Twin Spirits whom were originally one entity, but for reasons unknown got split into two: Kaguya and Yuzuru. These 2 have very distinctive personalities, and the original personality is gone. They cause a storm every time they appear.
The duo have been fighting 99 times to determine who is the real Yamai, with 25 wins each and 49 draws. On seeing Shidou, they decided that their 100th and final battle will be to see who can seduce Shido first.
In the XP4 fics, Yuzuru debuted in XP4 Heroes Coalition - Date A Live.
Appearance[]
Being identical twins, Kaguya and Yuzuru look almost the same. They both have orange hair and blue eyes and appear to be of the same height. However, watching carefully, both still have their individual characteristics.
Yuzuru has "the body of a model" as described by Shido. Her hair is braided in three portions, and she has a curvy figure. She has a vague expression and keeps her eyes half closed for most of the time. While her sister's Astral Dress is mainly the color purple, Yuzuru's dress is bluish-purple with a small cape and has chains on her left hand and foot. Yuzuru's height is stated to be 158cm, and her three sizes are B90/W61/H86.
Personality[]
She often speaks in a robot-like speech pattern; when arguing with Kaguya, Yuzuru always sneers at her and points out the flaw in Kaguya’s argument. She tells the point of comment before speaking the rest. For example, "Confirm; Shido". She sometimes speaks in the third person.
XP4 Fanfics[]
Yuzuru is part of the Heroes Coalitions as a Solo Hero. She also attends the Vanguard Academy as a student.
XP4 Heroes Coalition - Date A Live[]
In Chapter 3, Yuzuru is seen alongside the other Spirits and the girls of Squad of Excellence in a restaurant somewhere in the shopping district. When Shidou Itsuka and the guys met up with them in a restaurant when the Emotionless attacked causing the Squad of Excellence to spring into action. Everyone decided to leave, and with the help of a mysterious girl, they managed to get back to the residential area. The mysterious girl is then revealed to be Rinne Sonogami.
In Chapter 4, Yuzuru is present when Rinne Sonogami introduced herself to them and revealed that she knows Shidou Itsuka through her otherself's memories.
In Chapter 5, Yuzuru is seen alongside Shidou Itsuka and the Spirits in the Itsuka Residence where Rinne Sonogami explains the life of her otherself before gaining her memories. They later met up the Squad of Excellence and witnessed Luna Platz' anger towards Hector Vanguard Jr. and later listens to Shun Kazama's explanation of the possibility of Rinne becoming a Spirit.
In Chapter 7, Yuzuru is present in the Sprinkler Party alongside everybody else. She later joined Shidou Itsuka and Mizuno Higeki in blasting everyone with water guns. And when Team Capucho made their presence, Yuzuru got ready alongside everyone to take them on.
In Chapter 8, Yuzuru participated in taking on Team Capucho and the Dark Followers. When Kurumi Tokisaki arrives, she witnessed Team Capucho leaving the area by jumping into a red portal. After taking care of the remaining Dark Followers, she learned that Mizuno Higeki went beserk after Shidou Itsuka made a call to Kotori Itsuka.
In Chapter 9, Yuzuru is present when Shidou Itsuka called Kotori Itsuka and told her that Mizuno Higeki is fighting Ellen Mira Mathers, and added that the former is using electricity which Luna Platz and Shun Kazami to think that Mizuno is a Blessed. Later, Yuzuru and the others found Shidou and discussed a plan to stop the fight between Mizuno and Ellen. And after Kurumi Tokisaki and Alain, Rogue Cheney and Sting Eucliffe distracts Ellen and the AST respectively, Shidou managed to calm Mizuno down. And after that, Shidou kissed Mizuno, which made Yuzuru and the other Spirits jealous, sealing her powers but also resulted of her loosing her clothes, much to the Squad of Excellence and Hector Vanguard Jr.'s shock and disbelief.
In Chapter 10, Yuzuru alongside everyone are seen making their way back to the Itsuka residence when they came across Rinne Sonogami and Mana Takamiya. The next day, Yuzuru is present when Ibiki Morino arrives to tell Hector Vanguard, Jr. the results of the DNA testing.
In the Epilogue, Yuzuru alongside Shidou Itsuka, Kotori Itsuka, Tooka Yatogami, Yoshino, Origami Tobiichi, Yuzuru Yamai, Miku Izayoi, Natsumi, Mizuno Higeki, Rinne Sonogami and Mana Takamiya walking around the Vanguard Academy while Luna Platz and Sakura Haruno showing them around when they came across Hector Vanguard, Jr. whom is stuffed inside one locker.
XP4 Heroes Coalition - AKB0048[]
In Chapter 25, Yuzuru is present in confronting the DES Soldiers in Neo-City.
In Chapter 29, Yuzuru is amongst the thousands of AKB-fans gathered around the concert hall in a city somewhere Kasumigastar and later witnessed the return of Atsuko Katagiri and the rest of the missing idols, and had a great time watching the performances afterwards.
In Chapter 32, Yuzuru took part of paying respects for Mace Wyndu's death by attending his funeral via burial at sea in Atamistar before witnessing the arrival of a fleet of Dimensional Defense Union ships whom paid their respects for Mace by gifting him with a Heroes' Tribute.
Abilities[]
Due to having their Sephira Crystal split in half between each other, both twins share the same powers commanding wind. In terms of speed, they are regarded as the fastest Spirits. After hearing that they were originally one being, Reine theorizes that Kaguya and Yuzuru have their own unique Path that circulates Reiryoku between the two of them. She compares it to the Path which Shido establishes after sealing a Spirit.

Both of the Yamai Sisters, despite using different weapons; have the power to manipulate wind. They can gracefully control the air currents in order to glide through the sky. At their full power, both of them can easily create a typhoon that can blow away a small island. They also have shown to be able to combine their powers to form a bow and an arrow that is able to pierce through the <Arbatel>'s Territory.

- Yuzuru: El Na'ash (Imashimeru-mono lit. "Constrictor")
- Combination Attack: El Kanaph (Ten o Kakeru-mono lit. "Sky Rider"): A single decisive blow fired from a combination of the Yamai sisters' individual Angels. Both of their wings combine to form the body of the bow, Yuzuru's pendulum becomes the bowstring, and Kaguya's lance becomes the arrow.
Inverse Form[]
After being forced to see Ellen kill Shidou on the school rooftop, both of the twins, along with Tooka and Origami, assumed their inverse forms due to the overwhelming despair in their hearts. In this form, the Yamai sisters were both surrounded by a tornado that indiscriminately rampaged around the buildings beside the school. However, the status quo was restored after Kurumi used the sixth bullet to travel back in time.

- Kaguya and Yuzuru have fought each other for 99 times. The results are 25 wins, 25 loses, and 49 draws.
- Yamai has the "Eight" character in her name. It refers to eighth Sephira on the Kabbalah's Tree of Life: "Majesty or Splendor."
- Fitting their respective Angels' roles in Raphael's bow form, Kaguya's name contains "arrow" (ya) and Yuzuru's name contains "bowstring" (tsuru)
- Oddly Kaguya and Yuzuru's angel is supposed to be Michael because Raphael governs the sixth Sephira on Kabbalah's Tree of Life, "Beauty," while Michael governs the eighth Sephira on Kabbalah's Tree of Life, "Majesty or Splendor."
- However, Raphael and Michael are said to co-operate on the governing of the 6th and 8th sephirot, therefore both can be said to be affiliated with those sephirot. The fact there are two Yamai spirits likely illustrates the point that it has two governing entities.
- The Yamai sisters' Astral Dress's name is 'Elohim Tzabaoth' which means "God of Hosts or Armies." (Derived from the two Hebrew word: "Elohim" Which means God in Hebrew and "Tzabaoth" a Hebrew word which means "Host" or "Armies").
- Their angel, Raphael's name means in Hebrew was "God has healed" or "God's healer," Which "Raphael" was one of the Seven Archangel that appeared in the Book of Tobit.
- The actual meanings of El Re'em, El Na'ash, and El Kanaph are "bull", "serpent", and "wing" in Hebrew.
- The Yamai sisters appear in the Date a Live OVA as a cameo at the arcade which Tooka and Shidou are at.
- Any word Yuzuru starts her speeches with will always have exactly two kanji in Japanese.
- Kaguya loves cool things and hates studying. Yuzuru loves junk food and hates loud noises.
- Raphael was decided on having a wind attribute early on, but the Angel's form was not always a bow, with some ideas including a centaur or a chariot. The Yamai sisters' Astral Dresses also had concepts like "bandit" or "sylph" before "bondage" was settled on.
