Sheena Fujibayashi

Sheena Fujibayashi is one of the main characters from the Tales of Symphonia games and anime.

Sheena starts as a sympathetic antagonist; her first attempt to kill Colette fails due to her own clumsiness, and subsequent meetings highlight her niceness and sincerity as a person. It comes as no surprise when she joins the party after discovering what's going on in Sylvarant human farms. Later, she reveals she comes from the ninja village of Mizuho, from the parallel world of Tethe'alla; in spite of her attachment to her world and her village, she consistently picks the 'right' choice over blindly following her orders, even when she knows she will be punished for it. Her powers as a Summoner are essential to the second half of the game.

She's easily one of the most idealistic characters of the game, and one of Lloyd's staunchest supporters. However, it's revealed that she has a particularly angsty backstory - feeling responsible for the death of about a quarter of her village when she couldn't make a pact with the Spirit of Lightning, at age nine. Most people in the village blame her for this, including one of her childhood friends who then tries to kill her. This resulted in almost crippling lack of confidence and guilt, but she eventually manages to overcome them, helped mostly by Lloyd, Colette, Zelos and the choice her village made to trust her.

She has feelings for Lloyd but he doesn't get it. Her interactions with Zelos imply that there's also something going on between them and they've clearly known each other for quite some time, though whether they used to just be good friends when they were younger or even dated at one point is never actually stated in the game.

In the AWA fics, Sheena is a student at the AWA Academy.

Appearance

Sheena is a young woman with a dark blue hair tied in a spiky ponytail and brown eyes. She wears a light-lavender sleeveless kimono with an oversized ribbon tied behind her back in the middle over a black skintight suit, light-purple arm warmers and purple boots.

Personality

Sheena is a very strong-willed person. In part owing to her ninja upbringing, she tends to act somewhat hot-blooded and angry most of the time, but she does possess a gentle side, which becomes more apparent as the story progresses. She has little confidence in her ability to make important decisions, a flaw that was considerably deepened since the disaster with Volt, and considers herself a lone wolf. However, like Lloyd, she is a strong believer in altruism. She is willing to bend the rules imposed on her, such as the Pope's orders to kill the Chosen of Sylvarant, in order to do what is right.

Despite the anger some of Mizuho bears toward her, she understands that mistakes can be corrected, and absolutely refuses to give up on someone, even her greatest enemy. Sheena's tough facade has created an interesting outer personality. She tends to anger easily and is not above disciplining someone with a swift smack. However, she is also talkative, despite her troubled past and angry members of society who have cast her out of their circles. Sheena is also very clumsy, similar to Colette. Unlike Colette, who tends to get unnaturally lucky from being clumsy, Sheena is very unlucky, often falling into traps and tripping into holes, although this does not happen as often as Colette's clumsy moments.

Abilities

Armed with a variety of magic-infused seals, Sheena proves a decent melee fighter. More importantly, however, she can call upon powerful Summon Spirits to aid the party in battle; these summoning abilities are also vital to the storyline. With the exception of Corrine, she can only summon when she is in Over Limit, and at a heavy cost to her TP; once she begins the incantation, however, the chosen Summon Spirit will appear and deal massive damage on all enemies in range, as well as give support stats to party members. After gaining the Summon: Lightning arte, she can no longer to use Summon: Corrine.

Trivia

• Sheena's surname is derived from a ninja master of feudal Japan, Sabuji Fujibayashi.
• Sheena's strongest weapon is the "Divine Judgment", obtained from the coliseum. The name of her Devil's Arm is "Gates of Hell". The gag weapon the player can buy for her in the completely rebuilt Luin is "Money Bags".
• Sheena is the only playable character able to deal Dark damage without the use of an item or the arte Tethe Seal: Darkness in Tales of Symphonia; that method being Summon: Darkness.
