Laura Bodewig is one of the main characters from the Infinite Stratos anime and light novels.
Laura is a first year student at the IS academy and is the IS cadet representative from Germany. A genetically engineered super soldier, Laura is a member of the German military and holds the rank of second lieutenant. Laura was under Chifuyu Orimura's guidance when the latter was working with the German army's IS division and holds Chifuyu in high regard.
In the XP4 fics, Laura debuted in the XP4 Heroes Coalition - Infinite Stratos.
In the AWA fics, Laura is a student at the AWA Academy.
Appearance[]
Laura has long silver hair, a red right eye, and a black eye patch over her yellow left eye. She was the result of a failed nanomachine experiment that was meant to help her become a better IS pilot.
Her IS Academy uniform is modified version of the standard uniform, with baggy pants and high boots; this is befitting of her former post as an army officer. For her IS Practice and battles, she wears a gray version of the training uniform. At night, she now wears black cat pajamas that Charlotte got her. Ichika has remarked that Laura has a doll-like cuteness around her and Ichika said that her eyes look like gemstones.
Personality[]
She is initially seen as a tough person who absolutely despised Ichika for (indirectly) making his sister, Chifuyu Orimura, forfeit the match Laura believed Chifuyu should have rightfully won. She has a major superiority complex surrounding her identity as a super soldier, as she often remarks that surrounding people's abilities are second-rate. She insulted Cecilia Alcott and Lingyin Huang during their first fight, saying that she has a hard time believing people like them possess 3rd Generation IS's. She comments that they come from countries that boasts of numbers but no talent (Cecilia), or whose only redeeming quality is their ancient culture (Lingyin). Despite her arrogance, she can acknowledge when she's been beaten or outclassed, both shown after her first encounter with M where she admitted that she and Cecilia wouldn't be able to catch M or beat her if they could.
Having been trained by her, Laura idolizes Chifuyu to the point of worship. When she is first introduced she often seen trying to persuade Chifuyu to leave the IS Academy and return to Germany, as she believed her skills are being sullied by the students and staff who don't appreciate her and that she should be the only one who can train under her.
Having been raised in the army, she does not understand the workings of a normal life, seen as when she calls Ichika her "Wife", and when she comments that two hours of seiza is nothing compared to torture (Ichika wondered what counts as torture). Similar to Houki, Laura is rather shy when it comes to her looks despite her pride. While never having been interested in her looks or clothes before, she started thinking about them more in order to get Ichika's attention. When she does, she becomes very happy and unfocused on everything else except what Ichika has said to her. Strangely, she doesn't mind being naked in front of him.
Laura is quite honest and straightforward with her thoughts and intentions; she will usually come out and say what she is trying to do instead of hiding it. A good example would be when she kissed Ichika right in front of the entire Class One right after falling in love with him. This self-confidante is usually envied by the other girls, as they were too embarrassed to admit to their feelings or reason while she wasn't. Although, she still can be shy sometimes when trying something new like wearing a swimsuit or a dress.

Laura is a member of the Heroes Coalitions and is part of the Cross Guards. She also attends Vanguard Academy as a student.
XP4 Heroes Coalition - Infinite Stratos[]
In Chapter 2, Laura, alongside Cecilia Alcott, Charlotte Dunois, Houki Shinonono, Ichika Orimura and Lingyin Huang, are seen taking on the IS Golems in the arena grounds of the IS Academy where she witnessed Ichika and Charlotte getting taken out of commission, and then later witnessed the arrival of the New Age Avengers.
In Chapter 3, Laura, alongside her fellow IS Students and the members New Age Avengers, are still fighting the IS Golems in the arena grounds of the IS Academy when the White Marauder(Ichika Orimura) made his presence to aid them, and after defeating their foes, everyone are seen gathered at one section when Chifuyu Orimura and Maya Yamada made their presence. Later, she is present in the communications room where everyone are having a discussion about the current situation.
In Chapter 4, Laura is present in the cafeteria of the IS Academy where the members of the New Age Avengers and the IS Students are getting along well. Later, alongside everyone, Laura arrives in the communications area and came across Chifiyu Orimura, Maya Yamada, Major Richard Stronghold and Tabane Shinonono having a conversation, and later realized that Tabane left and took Edwin Ed" Horace Williams with her.
In Chapter 5, Laura, alongside the members of the New Age Avengers and her fellow IS Students, are seen in the cargo bay of the IS Academy and took part in a group photo by Kaoruko Mayuzumi, and later witnessed the arrivals of Dr. Michael Pating and Ichigo Kurosaki.
In Chapter 6, Laura is seen inside the locker room area of the IS Academy and is upset upon learning the news that she is not part of Ichika Orimura's team, Needles Kane and Vaas Montenegro then arrives and advised her not to do something that she'll regret, and she ponders their words carefully.
In Chapter 7, Laura, alongside Charlotte Dunois, Edwin Ed" Horace Williams, Rolf Yrmi and Yoshika Miyafuji, are seen having a conversation in the cargo bay somewhere in the IS Academy.
In Chapter 8, Laura, alongside Charlotte Dunois, Edwin Ed" Horace Williams, Rolf Yrmi and Yoshika Miyafuji, are seen having a conversation in the cargo bay somewhere in the IS Academy where they witness the battle between Ichika Orimura, Kanzashi Sarashiki & Shizune Takatsuki and Cecilia Alcott, Houki Shinonono & Lingyin Huang in the arena.
In Chapter 9, Laura took part in facing the IS Golems and the Emotionless in the arena of the IS Academy.
In Chapter 10, Laura took part in defeating Autumn, the Emotionless and the IS Droids in the arena of the IS Academy, and later witnessed Autumn disappearing into a portal, much to their shock and confusion.
In Chapter 11, Laura took part in a party somewhere in the IS Academy where it was announced that the Heroes Coalitions & the IS Academy had form an alliance, much to everyone's joy and delight.
In the Epilogue, Laura is mentioned to have been getting along with Chad Mordetzky, Leviathan, Squigly and Wesley Bryans.
XP4 Heroes Coalition - Neo-City Diaries[]
In Chapter 43, Laura is amongst the many people inside the Training Camp whom is listening to Eddward "Double D, Edd" Marion Smith and Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke broadcasting the announcement of the 'Wildcard Rules'.
In Chapter 50, Laura is present in the training area of the Training Camp where she took part in a dodging-based obstacle course and then witnessed Flash Sentry activating his Gift. Later that day in the training area, she is seen hanging around when she witnessed Raya Amanda and Sylvia van Hossen challenging Eddy Skipper McGee and Marcus "The Kane" McGee for another game of H.A.V.O.C. Marathon which the boys accepted.
In Chapter 51, Laura, alongside Bright Idea, Cecil Sandalwood, Ichika Orimura and Micro Chips, are seen hanging out in the hallways of the Vanguard Academy.
In Chapter 54, Laura took part in doing voluntary work in a charity center called The Shelter. Later that day, Laura, alongside Cecil Sandalwood and Flash Sentry, are seen in the kitchen where Mario Martinez thanked them for their help and after their father figure made his leave, they spotted Scootaloo and met up with them, she then revealed that she has been staying in the Shelter for a while since she is uncomfortable living with her mother at the moment. Laura and the others acknowledged that there is something more behind Scootaloo's explanation but decided to let go of it for now out of respect.

Abilities[]
Having been designed and raised as a test-tube baby for the army, Laura possesses heightened reflexes and a great deal of military tactics to deal with more experienced soldiers that are older than her, even before her introduction and gaining an IS of her own. She is very skilled in unarmed and armed combat. Her specially is with combat knives and is good enough to fight against Houki's swordsmanship on equally ground.
Cecilia ranks Laura as the best of the main cast. She demonstrates this by easily defeating both Cecilia and Lingyin, both being A-Rank representatives. She was also trained by Chifuyu Orimura, an accomplished pilot of her own right, which gives a testament of her skills.
- Odin's Eye - Also called the Eyes that Surpasses the World, it is a hyper-sensor package that heightens the nerve processing to the brain at an explosive speed. It allows reaction quickly in high-speed combat.
Trivia[]
- Laura is quite similar to Sousuke Sagara. Both were raised for combat and have participated in wars for practically their entire lives. As a result, both are completely clueless when it comes to social interactions, to the point that they often say ridiculous things with a completely straight face.
- In the XP4 fics, Laura is Sandalwood's girlfriend.
