Kanji Tatsumi

Kanji Tatsumi is one of the main characters from the Persona 4 anime and games.

The youngest member of the Team, Kanji Tatsumi is a first-year at Yasogami and a delinquent whose mother runs the local textile shop. Kanji's rough exterior hides a genuinely caring, kindhearted man with a talent for handicrafts - that caused people to shun him for his "girly" hobbies and to make him question his own sexuality.

In the XP4 fics, Kanji debuted in the XP4 Heroes Coalition - Neo-City Diaries.

In the AWA fics, Kanji is a student at the AWA Academy.

Appearance[]

Kanji is the tallest member of the Investigation Team. He has a bleached-blond sweptback crewcut with a widow's peak, gray eyes (blue in the animation), with a scar above his left eye. He wears many piercings, metal jewelry, and under his school uniform a black sweater with a skull-and-crossbones design. He also wears shaded glasses in battle. On days off, he instead wears a black jacket, and in the summer he discards his jacket and dons a black tank top with flaming skull design. At the campout he wears his P.E. suit fashioned similarly to his winter uniform. His character art features tattoos on his left arm.

Personality[]

From the start, he was known as a delinquent. When he was in middle school, he destroyed a biker gang and his notorious fame as a wild person spread to every corner of the countryside town. Although people mistake him as a member of a biker gang or as someone who likes violence, he actually does not have even the tiniest inclination to be violent. When he strongly denies the side of him which enjoys "feminine" hobbies like sewing or knitting is pushed to the extreme, it unexpectedly established his position as a juvenile delinquent. He drapes his school uniform over his shoulders in a punk-ish style to emphasize the atmosphere he wishes to embody. He acts out against any authority figure, but speaks politely to the protagonist and his other seniors. However, when he gets flustered and wants to threaten people effectively regardless of the circumstances, he occasionally gets into fights and scraps. Despite his seemingly rough personality, it is often due to misunderstandings. For example, he once went after a rowdy biker gang, but only to stop them from disturbing his mother. He obeys his strict curfew or his mother will make a fuss.

XP4 Fanfics[]

Kanji is a Solo Hero at the Heroes Coalitions and is a member of the Inaba Investigation Team. He also attends at Vanguard Academy as a student.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Neo-City Diaries[]

In Chapter 13, Kanji, alongside the rest of the Inaba Investigation Group, were supposed to have a nice weekend when Dan Gotanda made his presence. After Dan explained to them about the Heroes Coalitions, they all decided to join. Later, the team arrives at the Neo-City and were awed at the sight of the Training Facility. Later Dan left to sort out a problem, they then met Precious Dazzle and befriended him. After Dan returned and told them that they'll be meeting the president of the Heroes Coalitions which they obliged.

In Chapter 24, Kanji, alongside Alibaba Saluja, are seen walking towards Lucy Heartfilia, Momo Yaoyorozu and Lina Inverse by the fountain of the courtyard at the Vanguard Academy.

In Chapter 58, Kanji, alongside Inigo and Yuu Narukami, are seen in the streets of the Dormitory Village.

In Chapter 63, Kanji took part in pranking Hector Vanguard Jr. for a whole day inside the Vanguard Academy.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Mission Chronicles[]

In Chapter 13, Kanji, alongside Chie Satonaka and Terrence Ohno, are seen in the city of Musutafu for a recruitment task. They then witnessed Drake Gallantry taking out a thug and gave the crowd a rising speech to which earned him some cheers, and afterwards, they met up with Drake and agreed to have a conversation.

The Multiverse Adventures While Riding On A Bus[]

Kanji is a member of the Multiverse Rescuers.

History[]

In Chapter 23, Kanji, alongside Gash Bell, Kiyomaro Takamine, Takuya Kanbara and Yuu Narukami, are seen being confronted by a group of speedo-wearing unicorn warriors in a remote valley located somewhere in the island of Elsaragozademontelban when Carla the Exceed, Chie Satonka, Fate Testarossa Harlaown, Heartful Punch, Lucy Heartfilia, Nanoha Takamachi, Ryuuko Matoi, Sai, Sakura Haruno, Undine Wells and Wendy Marvell made their presence and assisted them in driving away the creatures and after introducing themselves to each other, they decided to head back to the bus.

In Chapter 25, Kanji is mentioned to have returned to the bus in the deep and narrow valley between two canyons in a desert that is located somewhere in the island of Elsaragozademontelban after witnessing Edd the Sockhead's gigantic holographic projection of himself.

In Chapter 28, Kanji, alongside Gray Fullbuster, Ichigo Kurosaki, Ichigo Momomiya and Jake Long, are seen taking on a group of Molten Bears in one part of the volcanic region somewhere in the island of Elsaragozademontelban.

Abilities[]

Kanji prefers fighting up close with powerful throws and uses a variety of blunt objects as weapons, such as a steel chair. His Persona is the thunderous powerhouse, Take-Mikazuchi.

Trivia[]

In the game, he took down an entire Biker Gang with a shield. In the anime, where the characters' weapons were adapted out in order to let the Personas do all the fighting, he beat down the same Biker Gang barehanded.
Thanks to Troy Baker and Matthew Mercer, Kanji's voice is the deepest of the male Investigation Team members.
People note how Kanji often yells "Damnit" whenever he is frustrated or excited. Yukiko makes fun of this in Q2 by giving him the codename "Damnit Skull".
