Kisame Hoshigaki

Kisame Hoshigaki is a character from the Naruto anime and manga.

A former member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, Kisame is a polite, but a savage warrior who loves to fight. He is partners and good friends with Itachi, and owns a sentient sword called Samehada ("Sharkskin" in the dub and as a rough translation) which can absorb chakra from anything it shaves, and can fuse with him to transform him into an anthropomorphic shark. He also possesses an enormous amount of chakra that is compared to the level of a tailed beast.

In Shippuden, a clone of his is beaten by Guy, then he doesn't do too much but hang around Itachi. He later gets assigned to go after the Eight-Tailed Ox and seemingly gets killed for his troubles. It is later revealed that was just a clone and Kisame manages to infiltrate Kumogakure by hiding in his sword. His cover ends up blown and he fights Guy again, but rather than give up the information upon losing he commits suicide by having his own shark summons eat him. It was revealed that Kisame was Tobi's psycho supporter since before his days as a member of the Seven Swordsmen, and served as the personal bodyguard of the Fourth Mizukage, who was Tobi's puppet.

In the AWA fics, Kisame is among the many person that given a second chance to live again in ZeroTopia. Kisame is a student of AWA Academy and is part of Class 1.

In the XP4 fics, Kisame debuted in the XP4 Heroes Coalition - AKB0048.

Appearance[]

Kisame is a tall man in his 30s. The man has a pale, blue-green skin, he has a pair of small, round, white eyes and blue-hair styled like a shark's fin, he also wears a forehead protector. He wore a black cloak with red clouds design, a brown sash across the front and back of his cloak that holds a giant buster sword in place, dark pants and sandals.

Kisame would wears black aviator glasses to hide his eyes and sometimes wears different casual clothing.

Personality[]

Kisame loves to fight. He is quite sadistic and demonstrates no hesitation in mutilating his opponents, as seen when he suggested cutting off Naruto Uzumaki's legs to make him easier to carry and to prevent the latter from escaping on foot. Despite his aggressive nature, Kisame is very perceptive and keen mind in battle, able to deduce the basics behind an opponent's technique and react to any potential danger he is aware of. Also, being paired with Itachi, Kisame is usually unable to finish or even start his battles with Itachi around, because the latter doesn't enjoy fighting as much as Kisame does. He would often inform his opponents that they "don't know how lucky they are". Kisame also has a deep loathing for Might Guy since their first encounter, with Guy's inability to remember Kisame prior to his death agitating him.

Kisame is mellowed down to a friendly yet playful person. He is still the same but is working himself to become a better person.

XP4 Fanfics[]

Kisame is a member of the Heroes Coalitions and is part of the Death City Squad as an honorary member. He also attends the Vanguard Academy as a student.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - AKB0048[]

In Chapter 19, Kisame took part in a successful mission in Nagoyastar. Afterwards, Kisame, alongside Itachi Uchiha and Death the Kid, decided to interrogate the captured DES Soldiers.

In Chapter 20, Kisame, alongside Tanjiro Kamado, Itachi Uchiha and Hideki Hinata, are seen gathered at the end of a hallway while looking at the rows of portraits of the previous Center Novas that are hung up on the wall before Mikako Minamino introduced herself to them. They then witnessed Zenitsu Agatsuma screaming and fainting at the sight of Mikako and is later present during a meeting instigated by Kazeyoshi Imai and Tsubasa Katagiri.

In Chapter 24, Kisame witnessed Kazeyoshi Imai's announcement all across the universe.

In Chapter 28, Kisame, alongside everyone, are seen approaching Kasumigastar and upon arriving at one city, they were confronted by Noboru Takizawa and his cohorts, demanding them to leave but they refuse. They then later witnessed the arrival of thousand of AKB-fans, much to their shock and awe.

In Chapter 29, Kisame, alongside everyone, are seen backstage of the concert hall in a city somewhere Kasumigastar with a look of awe at the large number of crowd gathered for the concert and later witnessed the return of Atsuko Katagiri and the rest of the missing idols, and had a great time watching the performances afterwards. They then learned that Noboru Takizawa escaped which prompted Kazeyoshi Imai and Mace Wyndu to go after him.

In Chapter 32, Kisame took part of paying respects for Mace Wyndu's death by attending his funeral via burial at sea in Atamistar before witnessing the arrival of a fleet of Dimensional Defense Union ships whom paid their respects for Mace by gifting him with a Heroes' Tribute.

In the Epilogue, Kisame, alongside the heroes and the idols, is present in the AKB-exclusive space terminal in Akibastar where they said their goodbyes to the members of Unit W and Alpha Squadron. Afterwards, everyone decided to take a break for the rest of the day.

Abilities[]

Kisame was an extremely powerful shinobi who earned admittance into the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and later Akatsuki. He easily killed his former master, a member of the Seven Swordsmen's strongest generation who wielded Samehada. Kisame could also battle an entire team single-handedly, and claimed to be the best Akatsuki member at capturing targets alive, proven when he successfully captured the Four-Tails' jinchūriki Rōshi with effort. On separate occasions, Kisame proved to be more than a match for Guy (one of Konoha's top shinobi), forcing the latter to open six of the Eight Gates against only a 30% power clone, and seven gates against the real Kisame without his sword.

Chakra and Physical Prowess

Even by Akatsuki standards, Kisame possessed massive chakra reserves, 30% of which once being compared to that of Naruto. His superhuman chakra level and combination with Samehada has earned him the moniker "Tailed Beast without a Tail". Kisame could also absorb chakra, as seen when grabbing Samehada and even reversing the effect of Aoba Yamashiro's paralysing technique.

Kisame had equally immense physical strength and speed, combining strong taijutsu strikes with powerful slashes from Samehada. He could overpower Asuma Sarutobi in melee weapon combat and even Guy, an extraordinary taijutsu master, in their second battle. Kisame was also durable enough to survive Killer B's "Version 2" Lightning Release: Lariat (albeit his ribcage was completely destroyed), as well as Guy's one-hit kill Daytime Tiger. After the latter, he retained enough strength to break free of Yamato's chakra-suppressing wood restraints, further showing his raw strength and endurance.

Ninjutsu

Kenjutsu

As his speciality, Kisame was a very powerful swordsman, and favoured the use of brute strength and melee fighting in battle. Originally, Kisame wielded a normal katana, with which he was proficient enough to kill all of his comrades on one mission. After slaying his master with the said katana, Kisame's signature weapon became Samehada, a sentient, scale-covered sword, that shaves flesh instead of cutting it. Samehada is also capable of detecting and absorbing chakra. However, it seems to be unable to automatically absorb ambient chakra, judging by the fact that all instances in which it has used the ability have either been when the opponent had a visible aura around them or when direct physical contact had already been established. When Samehada absorbs chakra, its scales grow and it slowly begins to unwrap itself, revealing a mouth with several rows of shark-like teeth.

Kisame could heal injuries and replenish his chakra by temporarily fusing with Samehada. He could also fuse fully to further increase his power, expanding upon his shark-like appearance. When fused with Samehada, he gains the ability to breathe underwater using gills which form on his neck. While using his Water Prison Shark Dance Technique, he could take full advantage of that ability by drowning his opponents while remaining unharmed. In this form he can sense other people's chakra, and absorb it just by touching the foe with any part of his body. He can also hide within Samehada, which he states is flawless due to the fact that he and Samehada have identical chakra, to the extent that not even sensors can detect him.

Initially, only Kisame was able to wield Samehada; if anyone besides him tried to pick it up, spikes protruded from its handle, and it returned to Kisame's side. Samehada's loyalty seems to be due to its liking of Kisame's chakra. If it finds a ninja with better chakra, it may betray its owner in favour of the new ninja, as demonstrated when Samehada protected Killer B from Kisame's attempt to slash off his legs. Despite its wavering loyalty, Kisame was capable of wielding Samehada against its will. Chōjūrō describes Samehada as the most terrifying sword of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen blades.

Nature Transformation[]

Kisame was a master of Water Release techniques, being able to alter an entire battlefield by create a large volume of water to give him the field advantage, and to use for attacks. His shark-like attributes carried over into techniques, for he even shaped his Water Release attacks into sharks. He could also use this skill as a means for transportation, riding inside of a water shark. Against stronger opponents, he increased his field advantage even further by creating a giant dome of water around himself, forcing his opponents to battle him underwater. He was able to make many sharks that overwhelmed Guy's Morning Peacock, producing more than all the blows Guy could unleash. He was also proficient with Earth Release, using it to travel under the earth, with the tip of his sword, Samehada, jutting out making him look like a shark swimming towards his prey. Kisame also had proficiency in Fire and Wind Release.

Summoning Technique []

Keeping to his shark theme, Kisame had shown the ability to summon sharks for both battle and message sending purposes, and can combine the one summoned shark with the Water Release: A Thousand Feeding Sharks as a way to conceal the messenger shark location and allow it to escape. He also used them with the Water Prison Technique to commit suicide.

In the AWA fics, Kisame got a large buster sword created by Lisbeth.

Trivia[]

The name "Kisame" literally means "demon shark", while his family name "Hoshigaki" means "dried persimmon"; like all members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, his surname is derived from a type of produce.
