Asuka Tanaka

Asuka Tanaka is one of the major characters from the Hibike! Euphonium anime and light novels.

The third-year vice-president of the concert band club. She plays the euphonium and is responsible for roping Kumiko into joining her section. She is a classmate of Haruka and the Bass Section leader, making her in charge of Kumiko, Midori, Hazuki, Gotou, Riko and Natsuki.

In the XP4 fics, Asuka debuted in the XP4 Heroes Coalition: Neo-City Diaries.

Appearance

Asuka is a teenage girl of above average height, and according to many other characters, she is regarded as beautiful. She has straight and lush black hair, which reaches to below her shoulders, and she has light blue eyes. She wears thin, red circular glasses, which is seen as her trademark.

She usually wears a dark-brown uniform jacket with white collar and a green scarf ribbon, dark-brown skirt with orange lines, black pantyhose and white & green shoes.

Personality

Outwardly, Asuka has a highly playful personality, and is also very friendly and caring. Her constant high energy often comes off as extremely childish to the other band members.

However, her humor and lighthearted appearance is merely a cover for a range of deeper emotions that Asuka struggles with and has repressed over many years, some of which stem from her mother's extreme parenting, and from having all contact with her father cut off by her mother. Her bright outer self is also a facade her for true personality, which is much more sly, calculating, and coldly logical. When necessary, Asuka can be extremely manipulative.

Asuka is part of the Heroes Coalitions as a Solo Hero. She also attends the Vanguard Academy as a student.

XP4 Heroes Coalition: Neo-City Diaries

In Chapter 85, Asuka met up with Nodoka Takehara, Aka Red and Luna Loud in the training area of the Training Camp where she introduced herself to Nodoka and Aka by pranking them before getting dragged away by Miho Nishizumi and Saori Takebe.

In Chapter 92, Asuka, alongside Yui Hirasawa, Mio Akiyama, Baton Switch, Brady and Royal Penguin, are seen inside the music room of the Vanguard Academy where Johnny Nowinski revealed that she ranked 6 at the 5th Neo-City's Heroes Coalitions Top 20 Heroes and she responded by playing her euphonium in the tone of 'Ode to Joy', much to everyone's awe and amazement.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Mission Chronicles

In Chapter 42, Asuka took part in a mission in protecting a Nuclear Factory at Magnum City. And when the mission concluded, Asuka is present in complimenting Kyoutarou Suga for stopping Grad the Speed Demon.

Asuka is a Blessed with an unnamed Gift. According to her, she can posses her enemies by staring them directly in the eyes. She is yet to demonstrate this.

• Even though Asuka has the same surname as Sugami Tanaka, they both have no familial relation with each other.
• Asuka's hobbies are reading and going to the aquarium.
• Asuka's euphonium is based on a Yamaha YEP-621S model.
