Lloyd Irving is the main protagonist of Tales of Symphonia anime and games.

Once a simple country boy, Lloyd is thrust into the outside world following a raid on his village. The Chosen of Regeneration is one of his closest friends, and after being exiled from his hometown of Iselia, Lloyd joins her on the Journey of Regeneration. Although the young warrior himself plays no part in the prophecy, he is still a strong optimist and a fair leader.

In the AWA fics, Lloyd is a student at the AWA Academy.

In the XP4 fics, Lloyd debuted in the XP4 Heroes Coalition - Neo-City Diaries.

Appearance[]

Lloyd has brown eyes along with spiky brown hair. He wears a long-sleeved red shirt with multiple metallic dots at the front, and black jeans, which are held up by suspenders. At the collar of his shirt, a long white fabric is fitted in the front of the collar and hangs from both sides of the collar. Lloyd wears matching red gloves and at his right glove, his Exsphere rests there. He also wears two belts around his waist, from which the sheaths of his swords hang. Finally, Lloyd's footwear consists of matching boots which is patterned with small metallic plates.

Personality[]

Because he lives in an area that has a peace treaty with the Desians, Lloyd never actually understands how people are suffering at the hands of the organization. This causes him to be rather naive and short-tempered. He tends to make very rash decisions, regardless of what consequences his actions may have, claiming he is doing it for Colette. However, when it all ends wrong, he realizes his mistakes and attempts to repent for them. Under the guide of Kratos, he eventually matures through the journey, having witnessed people truly suffer. When he understands that people have to be sacrificed everywhere for the sake of others, Lloyd decides to stop "clinging to the Chosen", as Kratos describes it, and fight with his own strength and new ideals. What he wants is a world without sacrifices.

Lloyd uses skill and logic to make up for what he lacks in knowledge, which is often a joke throughout the series as he fails to answer various educational questions. He is generally idealistic, and tries to do what he believes is best for the worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla. As the story progresses, Kratos compares Lloyd to Mithos, saying the only difference between them is that Lloyd is capable of acknowledging his own mistakes. Another character named Tiga also compares Lloyd to Mithos by saying he is idealistic and very dearly wants to save both worlds, but Lloyd denies that he is like Mithos and claims he does not want to save the worlds through Mithos's methods, but in his own way without sacrifices and with the help of his friends.

Lloyd is a member of the Heroes Coalitions as a Solo Hero. He also attends at the Vanguard Academy as a student.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Neo-City Diaries[]

In Chapter 8, Lloyd greeted Lazaris Gemstone and Kanonno Grassvalley inside the Vanguard Academy and had a conversation about the Unification Ceremony.

In Chapter 10, Lloyd, alongside Lazaris Gemstone and Kanonno Grassvalley, at the auditorium having a conversation while waiting for the Unification Ceremony to start before being joined by Charistina MacCrazey and Andres "Singko" Alvarez. During the event, he cheered when Kazeyoshi Imai and Faye Bertha Conway were chosen as Crown Holders but when Lazaris Gemstone was called on stage, he reassured his friend. And when Mario Martinez announced that Lazaris is also chosen as a Crown Holder, he was in shock.

In Chapter 11, Lloyd overhead Alden Cole's plan on doing a petition to expel Lazaris Gemstone which angered him. So, Lloyd locks Alden inside a locker all tied up and gagged.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Remnant Chronicles[]

In Chapter 11, Lloyd arrives in Mistral off-screen. Later, Lloyd, alongside the Death City Squad, Qrow Branwen, Nora Valkyrie, Jaune Arc, Lie Ren, Yang Xiao Long, Weiss Schnee, Oscar Pine and a number of heroes from the Heroes Coalitions, arrives in Haven Academy and confronted Leonardo Lionheart, Cinder Fall's group, Raven Branwen and Vernal. Then both sides got into a battle with Lloyd and Nora taking on Hazel Rainart.

In Chapter 12, Lloyd, alongside Nora Valkyrie, is seen taking on Hazel Rainart. He, Nora and Qrow Branwen then intercepted Leonardo Lionheart's attack when he tried to intervene the fight between Ozpin and Hazel. He then later assisted Ozpin fighting Hazel.

In Chapter 13, Lloyd, alongside Nora Valkyrie, are exhausted after fighting Hazel Rainart when Jaune Arc checks on them, he then witnessed Lie Ren using his Gift to weaken Hazel.

In Chapter 14, Lloyd, alongside everyone, are seen taking on Hazel Rainart, Mercury Black and Emerald Sustrai but their enemies escaped after Emerald uses her semblance to create a large illusion of Salem. After the battle, everyone decided to regroup when Yang Xiao Long, Tatsumi Oga & Baby Bel, Ike, Prince Mufasa & Rey Dynamice and Ghira Belladonna, Kali Belladonna, Sun Wukong, Ilia Amitola, Alisa Ilinichina Amiella, Ciel Alencon and Nana Kozuki met up with everyone. They later witnessed the reunion of Team RWBY.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Mission Chronicles[]

In Chapter 10, Lloyd took part in a mission at the Saderan Empire.

In Chapter 2, Lloyd appeared in the park where saw a trap set for the item thief and wonder what it's all about.

In Chapter 4, Lloyd met up with Rufus, Luigi and the Player Character at a playground where he told them about Zack's Beach Party. At Zack's Beach Party, he is seen alongside Colette Brunel, Lucina and Pit having a conversation at the surfboard stand when Nick and Hikari joins them.

In Chapter 6, Lloyd is present at the 31st Annual Gamesphere Legacy Awards.

In Chapter 7, Lloyd is seen attending a festival somewhere in the PC Kingdom and is later seen in the Eds' booth when Ed told everyone about the Perenimat Amulet.

In Chapter 10, Lloyd, alongside Colette Brunel, are seen having a date inside an amusement park in the PC Kingdom.

Abilities[]

Lloyd focuses on dealing melee physical damage, with concentrations in speed and combo building. Attacks such as Sonic Thrust and Sword Rain reflect his faster movements during battle, while sacrificing his damage output and durability, especially when compared to Presea Combatir. Like most swordsmen, his only ranged capabilities involve Demon Fang and related artes. In Dawn of the New World, Lloyd can use Blazing Tempest and Rising Phoenix as separate artes instead of altered artes.

Lloyd's "Technical" arte branch is the arte set he uses in all Escort Titles.
In Tales of the Abyss, Lloyd's costume can be seen in Nam Cobanda Isle with the description "Main character costume for A Tales of Two Worlds", in reference to the two worlds of Tales of Symphonia and paralleled with the novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
