Duo Maxwell is one of the main characters of the Gundam Wing animea and manga.
Duo is the pilot of XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe, one of the five Gundams sent to Earth in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
In the AWA fics, Duo is a student at the AWA Academy and is a part of Class 12.
Appearance[]
Duo's attires depends on the occasions but he usually wears a pair of dark, flared jodhpurs and a cassock-style shirt with a black turtleneck shirt underneath, black baggy-pants and black slip shoes.
Personality[]
Duo is the pilot of XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe. He wears his hair in a thigh-length braid and his signature outfit is a pair of dark, flared jodhpurs and a cassock-style shirt with a white turtleneck shirt underneath (giving it the appearance of a clerical collar). In the Endless Waltz movie, Duo wears what seems to be a red-zippered turtleneck underneath a leather motorcycle jacket with the sleeves rolled up. He is an expert salvager and a member of The Sweeper Group, a group of salvagers and tinkerers.
Duo refers to himself as the Shinigami (God of Death); a reference to the amount of death he witnessed early in his life.
Duo is by far the most human and sociable of the five Gundam pilots involved in Operation Meteor. On the exterior, he seems like a happy, charming, relaxed, and laid-back jokester, and for the most part he is; however, he is also a complex person with a terrible childhood that he hides from those close to him. He also deeply cares for his comrades and is never afraid to rush to their aide in battle.
Abilities[]
Duo is trained in basic combat, showing skill with firearms throughout the series more so than hand to hand or melee weaponry. He seems to employ a number of technological gadgets when on-foot, such as a special watch and personal beam-propeller glider. As he grew up on the streets, Duo is also quite a fast and agile runner.
As he is a Gundam pilot, Duo has exceptional mobile suit piloting skills, notably being masterful in evasive and other non-combative piloting techniques. In Endless Waltz, Heero all but admits that Duo is the better pilot of the two when they are piloting a shuttle to the X-18999 colony. Duo's specialty in MS combat is stealth and assassination techniques relying on the state-of-the-art cloaking and sensor-scrambling abilities of his XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe and XXXG-01D2 Gundam Deathscythe Hell even though he once despised the machine until convinced to use them to become the God of Death; since then he sees Deathscythe as a living being and friend, just like Heero sees Wing Zero as a living being.
Out of the cockpit, Duo seems to be, among all the Wing pilots, the expert at communications and computer-based work such as bugging enemy communications. As a member of the Sweeper Group, he loves to tinker with scrap metal and junk computer bits, even owning a scrapyard with Hilde Schbeiker.

- Duo is the first character from Gundam Wing to be introduced in the AWA fics.
- In the censored english dub of Gundam W, Duo refers to himself as "The Great Destroyer" rather than the "God of Death" due to religious themes.
- In the manga Ground Zero, which takes place between the events of the original anime and Endless Waltz, he is shown to be in a plan to destroy the Gundams with Quatre Raberba Winner and Trowa Barton. Later, it is shown that he was meant to deliver the teddy bear from Heero Yuy originally, but left it in a car and rushed off to purchase frozen oranges as a substitute.
