Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen is one of main characters from the World of Witches anime and light novels.
Eila is the top ace of the Suomus witch corps where she held the rank of captain (the rank indicated by the three roses on her collar). She is an expert at reading people, allowing her to predict her companions' actions and outwit her enemies. Her ability to read people combined with her ability to see the future means that in the air she is nearly untouchable.
In the AWA fics, Eila is a student at the AWA Academy.
In the XP4 fics, Eila debuted in the XP4 Heroes Coalition - Strike Witches.
Appearance[]
Eila has a long light brown hair and has lavender eyes. She wears a light blue uniform jacket, white stockings and white boots.
Personality[]
Eila's hobby is fortune-telling with tarot cards, although the accuracy of her predictions is questionable at best. Similar to stereotypes of her familiar (the black fox), she has a reputation for mischief, being fond of pranks amongst her colleagues and is somewhat mischievous. She has a talent for analyzing the thoughts and feelings of her companions, and this skill translates well to the battlefield where her judgment is used to consistently outwit her opponents. Eila is always together with Sanya, who is very attached to Eila, and Eila loves her dearly.
Bouncy and restless girl who is always full of energy and enthusiasm. Open and friendly Eila kept very relaxed in any situation. She has a reputation for cheerful and carefree merry prankster. She makes her courageous and persistent man, a loyal friend, in spite of carelessness and thoughtlessness.
Eila has a older sister named Aurora E. Juutilainen, who is a veteran land witch. She loves saunas and is on junior/senior terms with Elma Leivonen. Eila likes sleep during the day, she's been paired up with Sanya a lot and so she's gotten a lot of experience of fighting during the night. She has fans in her homeland, likes eat fish (She doesn't really likes herring since she had a bad memories when eating herring) and is good to make sandwiches.

XP4 Heroes Coalition - Strike Witches[]
In Chapter 3, Eila, alongside her fellow witches of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, happily reunited with Yoshika Miyafuji and later had a conversation with her alongside Rex Salazar and Eddward "Double D, Edd" Marion Smith. Suddenly, everyone heard an alarm which signals a Neuroi attack, they quickly sprung into action.
In Chapter 4, Eila, alongside her fellow witches of 501st Joint Fighter Wing, took part of taking on a Neuroi and they managed to destroy it, they then later witnessed Rex Salazar and Eddward "Double D, Edd" Marion Smith taking down another Neuroi, much to their awe.
In Chapter 5, Eila, alongside her fellow witches of 501st Joint Fighter Wing, Rex Salazar and Eddward "Double D, Edd" Marion Smith, are seen having a conversation inside the dining area of the main base when Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke entered the room and told them that a ship filled with wounded crew members arrived at the docks. Upon arriving at the docks, she is greeted by the sight of a large number of wounded crew members, much to her horror. She then noticed Malvina Rasputin's arrival and later witnessed Malvina using her Gift to heal every wounded crew members in a vast scale, she then discovered that Malvina is a Blessed.
In Chapter 6, Eila, alongside her fellow witches of 501st Joint Fighter Wing, Rex Salazar and Eddward "Double D, Edd" Marion Smith, are seen at the docks of the main base of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing where Malvina Rasputin shared to them about her past. After Double D offered Malvina membership for the Heroes Coalitions to which she accepted, Alla Yuliya made her presence and tried to take her back home but Malvina refused due to her desires to become a better to which Alla cried in tears of joy and decided to follow her mistress. They were later shock when Alla presented to Malvina the latter's gigantous share of wealth.
In Chapter 7, Eila took part in fighting off the Emotionless in a nearby town when the aforementioned creatures made their attack on the area and later then witnessed the arrival of the remaining members of the New Age Avengers.
In Chapter 8, Eila, alongside everyone, witnessed the arrival of the Emotionless-Neuroi and after recovering from the shock, she, alongside her fellow witches of 501st Joint Fighter Wing, met up with Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke in the hangar and after getting themselves into their Strikers, they flew towards the ginormous enemy and witnessed Perrine H. Clostermann going off plan and found herself getting swatted by the Emotionless-Dragon whom landed safely on a boat. After disposing the arms of the Emotionless-Neuroi, they witnessed Marcus "The Kane" McGee destroying it with his Gasoline Drill Gazer, much to their awe.
In Chapter 9, Eila, alongside everyone, witnessed Malvin Rasputin rejecting Eddy Skipper McGee with the latter falling into the water upon running off. She is present when Eddward "Double D, Edd" Marion Smith, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, Mio Sakamoto and Perrine H. Clostermann made their presence and announced the successful alliance between the Heroes Coalitions & the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, and later witnessed Marcus "The Kane" McGee saving Eddy from drowning.
XP4 Heroes Coalition - Neo-City Diaries[]
In Chapter 32, Eila is mentioned to have officially joined the Heroes Coalitions.
XP4 Heroes Coalition - Welcome to Herowood[]
In Chapter 9, Eila is seen inside a lounge area called Renz in Herowood.
Abilities[]
Her magic ability Foresight (Mirai Yochi) grants her a limited ability to predict the future. Classified in the detection system, she can sense and dodge enemy fire with relative ease and anticipate their movements. However, the ability seems to be focused on the near future and her projections on more complicated issues have been imprecise.
Like Laura Toth of the Isle of Wight Detachment Group (and former member of 501st), she can dodge the enemy’s fire easily. When compared to Hanna Wind, the number two super ace of the Suomus Air Force, they are often refered to as "Hanna the Marksman" and "Eila the Evasive", although in Hanna's case her talents are more broad-reaching.
In practice, Eila's unique style presents a fear for her superiors: there is some concern that, being effectively untargetable by enemy weapons, she has grown out-of-practice or careless with regard to other combat essentials, such as use of her shield. Lacking the same sense of danger, she can forget the vulnerability of her squadmates and the importance of teamwork.
Trivia[]
- Eila is based on the #1-ranked Finnish flying ace (and #1-ranked non-German flying ace) Eino Ilmari Juutilainen. Like Eila, he bore the nickname "Illu" amongst his friends.
- Her magic ability, Foresight, is a reference to Eino having never been hit by enemy fire.
- Eila's middle name, Ilmatar, is not only a play on "Ilmari", her archetype's middle name, but is also a reference to the air goddess Ilmatar, from the Finnish mythological epic the Kalevala. The thematic connection between the witches and wind spirits is strong, but not confirmed.
- Aside from using the gender-neutral "watashi" to refer to herself, Eila uses exclusively masculine vocabularies and syntaxes in the Japanese version.
